At the age of twenty-one or twenty-two I did not much consider death. Naturally I knew that I would die one day, but my imagination did not embrace the possibility of it. In any speculation about the future I always took it for granted that I would be there to see the scene. It is, I fancy, natural enough for healthy people up till their forties to think of themselves as immortal.
